Fire Mage DPS PVE Guide – WotLK

Welcome to the PVE Fire Mage DPS Guide for World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King!

This guide will teach you how to play an Fire Mage in a raid. It covers talents, glyphs, gems, enchantments, rotation, and gameplay tips.

There are two talent build options for Fire Mage, the first build has the Frostfire bolt spell as a main source of DPS. This build is better with lower gear levels.

The second build is for players with BiS or pre-BiS gear. Fireball is the main DPS spell with this build.

Major Glyphs

• Glyph of Living Bomb
• Glyph of Molten Armor
• Glyph of Frostfire or Glyph of Fireball depending on which build you use

Minor Glyphs

• Glyph of Slow Fall
• Glyph of Frost Ward
• Glyph of Fire Ward

Gems are situational and depend on the build and equipment. They are used to reach the required stat caps.

Lower Level Gear Gems

• Meta – Chaotic Skyflare Diamond
• Red – Runed Cardinal Ruby
• Yellow – Potent Ametrine
• Blue – Purified Dreadstone x2

Pre-BiS and BiS Gear Gems

• Meta – Chaotic Skyflare Diamond
• Red – Potent Ametrine
• Yellow – Potent Ametrine
• Blue – Misty Eye of Zul x2

Notes

• Two of either Purified Dreadstone or Misty Eye of Zul are needed to activate the Meta Gem.

• Head – Arcanum of Burning Mysteries
• Shoulder – Greater Inscription of the Storm
• Cloak – Enchant Cloak – Greater Speed
• Chest – Enchant Chest – Powerful Stats
• Bracers – Enchant Bracers – Superior Spellpower
• Gloves – Enchant Gloves – Exceptional Spellpower
• Waist – Eternal Belt Buckle
• Legs – Brilliant Spellthread
• Boots – Enchant Boots – Icewalker

  • One Handed: Enchant Weapon – Mighty Spellpower or Enchant Weapon – Black Magic
    Staves: Enchant Staff – Greater Spellpower

• Cast Scorch
• Cast Living Bomb
• Cast Fireball or Frostfire Bolt
• Cast Pyroblast

Notes

• The rotation of these two builds is similar. All you have to do is change the main spell.

• Scorch every 30 seconds to maintain Improved Scorch on the target
• Living Bomb every 12 seconds after the explosion
• Pyroblast after every Hot Streak proc
